According to GhanaWeb, the Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Richard Acheampong, has voiced strong criticism of certain minority backbenchers in Parliament for their disruptive behavior during sessions.
Acheampong noted that while the NPP MPs in the back rows are highly qualified professionals—comprising lawyers, engineers, and former CEOs of state-owned enterprises—their actions often do not reflect their esteemed careers.
He expressed concern over their conduct, suggesting that it raises questions about their previous leadership capabilities.
His remarks were prompted by a viral video in which an NPP backbencher directed derogatory comments towards NDC MP Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, telling her to “sit down” and referencing her late father, former President Jerry John Rawlings, in a derogatory manner.
Acheampong characterized the incident as regrettable and inappropriate, emphasizing that such language is unbecoming of an “honourable member.”
He further questioned the fairness of holding individuals accountable for their parents’ actions, expressing that such attacks should not occur in Parliament.
“Why should the sins of a father be visited upon the son or daughter?” the Bia East MP questioned.
These comments were made during an interview with Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Neat FM on February 6, 2025.
