Arsenal have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after falling to defeat at the hands of Newcastle over two legs.

The Gunners lost 2-0 in the second leg of the semi-final at St. James’ Park, ending in a 4-0 defeat on aggregate.

With that match now out of the way, Mikel Arteta and his side will jet off to Dubai for a mid-season break.

So with that said, here’s a look at the biggest Arsenal stories ahead of another busy day.

Mikel Arteta gives Gabriel Martinelli injury update

Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a difficult defeat to Newcastle in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners were chasing a two-goal deficit from the first leg but were greeted with a home side full of energy and quality.

Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon condemned Arsenal to a 4-0 aggregate loss, dumping them out of the competition.

The frustration of that defeat was only heaped on top of with Gabriel Martinelli picking up an injury in the clash.

Speaking to the press after, Arteta said on the issue: “He felt something in the first half. We will have to assess.”

Jamie Redknapp on Alexander Isak preference

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Alexander Isak, with the striker having been on the radar at the club for some time.

The Newcastle forward has haunted the Gunners on quite a few occasions, showing them exactly what is missing from the team.

Former Tottenham star Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Isak may prefer something Arsenal can’t offer him though.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I think Alexander Isak would absolutely love having a right-footed right-winger. So somebody that’s going to cross the ball and get it into him like that.”

With Mikel Arteta largely opting for left-footed right-wingers, it may prove to be a problem in the transfer chase.

Ian Wright hits out at referee change

The Premier League have announced they will clamp down on celebrations from players if they are believed to be a mocking gesture.

It comes following Myles Lewis-Skelly’s celebration against Manchester City, where he seemingly took a shot at Erling Haaland by copying him.

It’s a bizarre decision, one that has been slammed by Ian Wright, with the former Arsenal star taking to social media.

He said on X: “They would be calling for me to be locked up!!! VAR already taking away the celebrations and now this! Kmt.”

It remains to be seen what type of cracking down will occur over the situation.
