According to a report by MyJoyOnline, former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is running his campaign on a platform centered on economic recovery and a transformative vision for Ghana, encapsulated by his ambitious policy of a “24-hour economy.”

The latest report from IMANI’s PULSE, Episode 11, offers a fascinating glimpse into the public’s reception of Mahama’s campaign, revealing strong support for his call for change.

According to the report, which analyzed over 20,000 social media posts from August to October 10, 2024, Mahama’s message has resonated deeply with online audiences.

82% of discussions surrounding Mahama’s call for change have been positive, indicating widespread support for the former president’s vision.

IMANI’s PULSE report delves into the sentiments expressed by Ghanaians on social media, showcasing a favorable environment for Mahama’s campaign.

Out of the 20,000 posts analyzed, 72% of the overall sentiment towards both the NDC and Mahama was positive.

Mahama’s economic agenda has been at the forefront of his campaign, and it seems to be paying off. His promises of swift economic reforms, job creation, and policies that cater to the youth and marginalized groups have been received positively by a significant portion of the electorate.

Specifically, 70% of the discussions surrounding his economic promises reflected positive reactions, with only 30% of the conversations showing negative sentiment.

Beyond the numbers, IMANI’s emotional analysis provides deeper insights into how Ghanaians feel about Mahama’s leadership.

The analysis revealed that 41% of the comments analyzed reflected admiration for Mahama.

Neutral emotions accounted for 36% of the comments, indicating that while some voters are still undecided, they are open to hearing more from Mahama as the campaign progresses.

Interestingly, only 18% of mentions expressed negative emotions such as disgust or anger, which highlights that the overall perception of Mahama remains largely favorable, despite some criticisms.
