Senior Partner at AB & David Africa, David Ofosu-Dorte, has predicted the potential return of UT Bank and GN Bank to Ghana’s banking industry.

In his forecast, he noted that one of the two defunct banks would regain its operating license.

Speaking at the 2025 Crystal Ball Event, he stated that the return of either UT Bank or GN Bank would be part of the ongoing evolution of Ghana’s financial market.

“UT Bank and GN Bank—one of them will get their license back,” he said, as quoted by Citi Newsroom.

Ofosu-Dorte also highlighted the growing concerns among financial institutions regarding MTN Ghana’s plans to transition into a bank.

“MTN has already announced plans to become a bank. It will look more real soon, and a lot of banks will be scared,” he remarked.

The potential revival of UT or GN Bank, coupled with the emergence of MTN Bank, could significantly reshape Ghana’s banking landscape.

Meanwhile, UT Bank and GN Bank were among the financial institutions whose licenses were revoked during the 2017 banking sector clean-up.
