Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of Government Communications-designate, has described President John Dramani Mahama as a man who avoids flamboyance and ostentation.
He claimed that President John Dramani Mahama prioritises affordable travel choices as part of his commitment to saving the country money.
He stated that the President does not want to waste taxpayers’ money on superfluous or luxurious expenses.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu made the remarks in response to the president’s decision to travel on his brother’s private jet while appearing before the Vetting Committee.
“President Mahama is not one who is given to flamboyance and ostentation. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of traveling with him a couple of times.
“There was a day that we were supposed to join a commercial aircraft. He was willing to go onto that aircraft that had only two seats left without any of his aides,” he said on Friday, January 31, 2025.
He mentioned an example in which President Mahama flew from Frankfurt to Accra in economy class without protest.
He stated that the present president was not like former President Akufo-Addo, who chartered pricey private jets for official trips.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu was also quick to point out that once the presidential aircraft was confirmed to be in acceptable condition, the President would utilise it for all official trips.
“He will use it every single time that he has to travel, unless, of course, some circumstance makes it impossible, even then, he will choose the cheapest option available to the extent that it is safe and can take him to wherever he has to go,” he added.
