The former Member of Parliament of Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has strongly condemned the chaos that erupted in Parliament between the Minority and Majority sides of the Appointments Committee during the vetting process on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The former parliamentarian did not hold back, sharply criticising the lawmakers involved in the altercation for displaying what he called ‘disgusting behavior,’ and describing the incident as an act of thuggery.

In a Facebook post on Friday, January 31, 2025, Mubarak called for the prosecution of the Members of Parliament, accusing them of deliberately causing damage to state property.

He urged the Attorney General to take action, press charges, and pursue the matter to set a deterrent, highlighting the dangerous precedent the chaotic incident could set.

“Under the Public Property Protection Law, ‘Any person who by carelessness, gross negligence or dishonesty misapplies or causes the dissipation of or loss or damage to public property shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to imprisonment not exceeding five years or to a fine not exceeding GH¢50,000 or to both’,” he wrote.

He added, “I think my very good friend the Attorney General should press charges against those Members of Parliament who willfully damaged microphones and tables. Until we make examples of adults who fool around, this disgusting behavior put out tonight could be viewed as normal behavior. Let’s not condone thuggery.”

His comments come in the wake of chaotic scenes and altercations that erupted during the vetting process of Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

Several microphones used by the committee to address the floor were damaged during the altercation. Photos circulating on social media show tables scattered with plastic cups, used tissues, and cables connected to the damaged microphones.
