Hearts of Oak finally halted their two-game winless run with an important 1-0 win over Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium in match-day 19 opener of the Ghana Premier League.
The opening ten minutes of the game was really a balanced encounter with both teams focusing much on possession but without any dangerous incursions.
Heart of Lions with an opportunity in the 20th minute after Kwesi Pong made his way above a pool of defenders but had his final shot deflected and went wide.Â
Nine minutes later, Hamza Issah was served with a glorious chance to break the deadlock but fired wide for a restart. That was a huge miss.
In the closing moments of the first half, the homesters once again came very close to scoring but Mawuli Wayo unluckily had his strike went off the upright.
Hearts of Oak were awarded a penalty in less than five minutes into the second half after Stephen Appiah Asare was brought down in the boxÂ
Mawuli Wayo stepped up and sent goalkeeper Lawrence Osei the wrong way to open the scoring account and the first goal of matchday 19.
The Giant Killers nearly responded few minutes later after Kwesi Pong once again came in field from the right but his final shot was blocked hugely by Samuel Amofa.
The visitors kept on mounting so much pressure since going down and made lots of attempts but struggled to break the opposition defense and were also a bit indecisive anytime they get to the final third.
In the 76th minute, Hamza Issah made a daring run from the right flanks and hit a low one which Lawrence Osei struggled to collect initially but was subsequently cleared out.
It finished 1-0 after full for Hearts of Oak who are now back on winning path after two-game winless run.
