The Minority in Parliament is demanding the removal of Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor from his position as the Majority Chief Whip.
This follows what the caucus feels is his alleged disruptive conduct and perceived lack of diplomacy in managing Parliamentary affairs.
During a press conference on Friday, January 31, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticised Dafeamekpor’s leadership style, labeling him a bully and accusing him of undermining the authority of Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee.
Afenyo-Markin stated that Dafeamekpor’s behavior has become a major concern within the Parliamentary Chamber, affecting proceedings and cohesion within the Majority side.
He urged President Mahama and his government to reconsider their choice of Dafeamekpor as the Majority Chief Whip.
“To my respected friend Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor if he thinks that he is still in opposition and he would be a bully, then he will meet his meter. Dafeamekpor has gained notoriety of shouting, yelling, undermining his own chairman, interrupting proceedings, undermining his own Majority Leader and he describes himself as the avant-garde of the government.
“Is he the first Majority Chief Whip? The Majority Chief’s role is to be a key negotiator, he should be a diplomat in the Chamber. If he did so successfully in opposition, now he is in government. So President Mahama and his government may have to rethink their choice of Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor as their Majority Chief Whip.”
