The Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has publicly exposed the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, over claims that he was not scheduled to be vetted as part of the nominees on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Ablakwa, appearing before the committee on Friday, January 31, 2025, strongly refuted Afenyo-Markin’s claims, clarifying that he had received an official invitation letter from the clerk, informing him of his scheduled vetting process on the day the chaos erupted.

His statement disproved Afenyo-Markin’s claims that he had been smuggled into the vetting process, challenging them to be false.

“I want to set the record straight particularly based on that press conference and the subsequent calls from the media. I hold in my hands a formal invitation letter from this committee signed by the Clerk of the Appointments Committee…” he clarified.

Ablakwa expressed his displeasure with Afenyo-Markin’s attempts to depict him as a lawless individual with no principles with disregard for proper procedures.

“… I was to come right after the lunch break at 12:30 pm and so for the Minority Leader to address a press conference a while ago and portray me as some hooligan and lawless character who will be smuggled into the hearing with my wife, chiefs, and respected ambassadors, I take strong exception to that,” he added.

His clarification follows an earlier press conference held by Afenyo-Markin in which he stated that Ablakwa and other nominees were not scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee on Thursday and questioned the legitimacy of his appearance.
