Girona forward, Arnaut Danjuma has detailed how the club targetted Thomas Partey in their defeat to Arsenal in the final game of the 2024/2025 edition of the UEFA Champions League.

Danjuma explained that the club did their homework and realized that Thomas Partey loved to drift to midfield because that his usual position.

According to him, the team noted that if they could get the ball behind Partey, they had a decent chance of scoring against Arsenal.

Their tactics worked as their goal came through an incredible pass after Thomas Partey had moved to midfield.

“We’ve been revising and the goal that we scored was because we knew that Thomas Partey was a midfielder and there was going to be a lot of space in his back. It was a phenomenal pass from my centre-back It’s funny that we trained and worked on it and it came through,” he said in the post-match.

Partey’s below-par performance lasted just forty-five minutes as Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta subbed him in the second half. Dutch defender, Jurrien Timber replaced Partey and solidified the right-back position for the Gunners.

Arsenal went on to win the game 2-1 following goals from Italian midfielder Jorginho and youngster, Ethan Nwaneri.

Partey is expected to return to his regular midfield role when Arsenal play Manchester City on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in the Premier League.
