Why Should Allan Kyerematen Receive Appointment In Mahama Administration

Share

As President Mahama begins revealing his appointments, many Ghanaians are speculating about whether Alan Kyerematen will secure a key position in the new administration. This anticipation follows remarks made by President Mahama during his inauguration on Tuesday, January 7th, where he reaffirmed his commitment to forming an inclusive government.

In his inaugural speech, Mahama stated, “Today, we celebrate a new administration, marking the start of a period filled with new opportunities and transformation. With Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang by my side, we are poised to drive progress and inclusivity, united by our vision for a more prosperous Ghana.”

Although it seems unlikely that Kyerematen, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and founder of the Movement for Change, will be appointed as one of Mahama’s 60 ministers, there is considerable speculation that he could be offered a significant role in the administration.

Kyerematen, who was one of the first to congratulate President Mahama after his December election victory, presented a proposal titled the Great Transformational Plan (GTP) to the president-elect. The document outlined suggestions aimed at supporting the new government’s agenda.

Previously, Kyerematen served as Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry under President Akufo-Addo’s government but stepped down to run for president. In addition to his political career, he has worked as a trade advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, where he managed the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC).
