A man is reported to have been arrested in connection with an alleged smuggling of food items meant for students at Tsito Senior High Technical School (SHS) in the Volta Region.
The incident occurred on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Sokode-Gbogame in the Ho municipality, when one Apostle Frank Agogo, also known as Apostle Ekatso, intercepted the goods.
The food items, including hundreds of boxes of canned tomato paste, were discovered after being offloaded from the Tsito SHS bus into an Opel Astra taxi with registration number GR 5051 U.
Apostle Agogo, acting on suspicion, approached the driver and questioned him. The driver confirmed that the items originated from Tsito SHS.
Apostle Agogo shared his account with Pulse News, explaining, “Immediately I noticed he was loading the large tin tomato boxes, about 100 of them, I went up to ask where the goods were coming from. He told me the bus had offloaded them, and they were from Tsito SHS’s warehouse.”
The incident took place just 24 hours after the government began distributing food to senior high schools to address concerns over shortages.
This distribution was part of a directive issued by President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to collaborate with the Ghana Education Service (GES) in getting food supplies from the Tema Warehouse to schools.
