Ted Kravitz was amused by Lewis Hamilton’s reactions to Kamala Harris’ declaration of support during the Autumn break. The Democratic Party’s presidential nominee expressed her love of F1 and support for the seven-time world champion during a Howard Stern broadcast.

Harris is currently going head-to-head with Donald Trump in the American presidential election and with both candidates’ campaigns in full swing, the Democratic nominee has been appearing on numerous podcasts and radio shows to connect with listeners.

Discussing her passion for the sport, Harris told Stern: “It’s so good. We love it, our whole family does.” Asked if the response was a “campaign thing”, the 59-year-old furiously denied faking her love for the series.

“No,” she hit back. “God no! No. Actually, I haven’t been able to watch a lot lately because I am campaigning because you know depending on where they’re driving, the time of day, you’ve got to wake up early.”

When asked for her favourite driver, Harris continued: “Lewis Hamilton, of course.” Stern then revealed he didn’t know who the Brit was, prompting his guest to continue: “Ah, he’s leaving Mercedes… you don’t know… you don’t watch Formula One? Once you start… you should see it, you might get hooked.”

Offering some more insight into the comments, Sky Sports F1 pundit Kravitz explained: “We asked Lewis about this. He said ‘I saw it, I was pleasantly surprised, it’s quite surreal that someone in the presidential campaign has the time to watch Formula One and to be a supporter of mine.

“‘It’s a sign of the breadth of depth of Formula One in the US that maybe we’ll have someone in the White House who will be watching the Grand Prix when they’re in there’. I thought that was quite funny.”

As explained by Kravitz, Hamilton was honoured to discover that Harris was a fan of his. The Oakland-born politician’s support will be a useful boost as the 39-year-old looks to return to the podium at the United States Grand Prix this weekend.

Hamilton heads into Sunday’s race looking to shake a difficult run of form. After recording two wins and a podium in a three-race stint before the summer break, the Brit has failed to finish higher than fifth in his last four Grand Prix starts.
