The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, stormed out of a live interview on 3FM’s morning show on Monday, November 25, 2024.
An exchange with host Johnnie Hughes arose during discussions on the controversial issue of expired rice that was repackaged for distribution.
Kwarteng, while addressing the concerns, explained that the rice in question had undergone testing as mandated by Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
He stated that the company behind the rice, Moshosho, had sent it back to India for further testing under the oversight of the Indian equivalent of the FDA. This process, he argued, ensured proper verification for Ghana’s FDA to approve repackaging.
However, Hughes challenged the credibility of the process, questioning why the company responsible for selling the expired rice was involved in facilitating its testing.
He pointed out the potential conflict of interest in relying on Moshosho to handle the logistics for the testing, which further complicated public trust in the procedure.
As the host pressed for clarity, Kwarteng accused Hughes of having a pre-determined stance on the matter, saying, “You already have your position, so I’m not interested in discussing this matter again.”
He then stood up and walked out of the studio, leaving the host surprised.
