With just ten days to go until the December 7 general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed allegations of collusion with any political party to manipulate the outcomes of the election.

Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Head of Training at the EC, speaking at a security symposium in Accra, reaffirmed that Ghana’s electoral system is designed to ensure integrity and transparency, making rigging impossible, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.

He emphasised that the EC has put in place some checks and balances to prevent any manipulation of results.

“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. It can only happen with the full cooperation of all stakeholders, including the EC and party agents. At every stage of the process, there are checks and balances, and it is impossible to manipulate results without everyone involved being compromised,” he stated.

Dr. Quaicoe’s comments come in response to allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at a mini rally at Sekondi on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Mahama accused the EC of enlisting 65 New Patriotic Party (NPP) members as temporary election staff in the Gomoa East constituency of the Central Region.

“This development substantiates the NDC’s longstanding concerns about a potential alliance between the EC and the ruling party to skew the election results in favour of the NPP,” he claimed.

The former president called on his supporters to remain vigilant and safeguard the integrity of the election process.

“We all have to be vigilant and keenly observe the polls because we can vote well, but some thieves will rig it. I have seen a video from Gomoa East which contains a recording showing that one NPP MP and his executives submitted 65 party members to an EC official who added them,” he noted.

As Ghana prepares for this critical democratic exercise, the EC has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a free, fair, transparent, and credible election.

The Commission has entreated all citizens to trust the process, participate actively, and work together to ensure a peaceful and transparent outcome.
