According to a report from GhanaWeb. Ace Ghanaian sports broadcaster, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, has launched a scathing critique of Otto Addo, the current head coach of the Black Stars, labeling him as “snobbish” following a personal interaction with the coach in France. The broadcaster’s comments came after he recounted an incident that occurred years ago when he was involved with the Normalization Committee (NC) and had attempted to engage Addo for the Black Stars’ coaching position.
In a recent appearance on Peace FM, Yeboah shared details of an encounter in which he had reached out to Addo on behalf of the NC, following a recommendation from the then Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah. The veteran sports journalist explained that during his tenure with the committee, he had contacted Addo, who had shown initial interest in taking up the national team coaching role. However, discussions did not proceed as planned due to financial constraints concerning his contract at Borussia Dortmund.
“I contacted him as requested by Honourable Asiamah, who wanted us to hire Otto Addo as the Black Stars coach. I remember texting him, and he expressed interest but stated that the NC would need to buy him out of his contract with Dortmund,” Yeboah recalled. “I told him we could not afford to pay the buyout clause, and from there, the negotiations didn’t go any further.”
Years later, during a recent trip to France, Yeboah once again crossed paths with Addo and seized the opportunity to remind him of their past interaction. The response, however, did not go as he had hoped. Yeboah said that when he approached Addo and brought up their previous conversation about the Black Stars coaching position, he was met with what he described as a “cheeky” and dismissive reply.
“I met him in France not long ago and asked if he remembered me. I reminded him that Honourable Asiamah had asked me to contact him about the Black Stars job and that he had shown interest. But do you know what he said? He told me, ‘Do you know how many people have contacted me about the Black Stars job in the past?’” Yeboah recounted, sounding frustrated by the interaction. “I didn’t reply, I just walked away. That response was very snobbish.”
The broadcaster’s comments came in the wake of similar criticisms made by another well-known figure in the sports media, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Songo. Agyemang had also described Otto Addo as “cheeky” during a discussion of the Black Stars’ ongoing struggles, particularly following a disappointing setback in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Yeboah’s remarks have sparked conversation across the sports community, with many questioning Otto Addo’s conduct and whether his demeanor may have affected his relationship with key figures in Ghanaian football. Despite his undeniable success in guiding the Black Stars during key moments, including their qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the controversy surrounding his personality remains a topic of public discussion.
The conversation about Otto Addo’s leadership comes at a time when the Black Stars are facing pressure to improve their performances after a rocky start to the AFCON qualifiers. The team’s recent results have raised concerns among fans and pundits alike, leading to calls for change both on and off the pitch
Dan Kwaku Yeboah’s candid comments shed light on the ongoing challenges surrounding the Black Stars and their management, while also offering a glimpse into the often difficult and complex relationships that exist within Ghanaian football. As the national team’s struggles continue, the scrutiny on Otto Addo’s character and leadership will likely remain a point of contention for fans and analysts alike.
