Big Sam, who had a Green Card and was due for US citizenship in 3 months, hasn’t seen his son since
Big Sam, a Ghanaian man who lived in the United States (US) for over 17 years has narrated and has shared the story of how he was deported with just three months left for him to be conferred with US citizenship.
Speaking in an interview on Kofi TV, Big Sam said that after separating from his American wife, whom he had a son with, he started a relationship with a Black American woman, who was introduced to him by his friend.
He said at a night out one evening he started making out with his new girlfriend in her car as he was heating his car. The girl after some time started telling him to stop, and when he realised she was serious, he stopped touching her.
“We went to Denver, Downtown; there is a club called Roof Top. We went to enjoy it there. Around 3:00 am, we went back to where we had parked our cars. We started warming our cars, and I asked the girl whether I could come and sit by her for a chat while we were waiting.
“She agreed and let me into her car. As we were chatting, I started marking out with her, and she was okay with it. But, when I started touching her breast, she started resisting. She was saying, ‘Sam stop, Sam stop’ and when I realised she was becoming serious, I stopped,” he narrated.
He said that he then set up a golf date with the Black American lady for the weekend, entered his car, and drove off.
He added that an hour after getting home, his friend who set him up with the lady called and said she was no longer interested in the relationship because of what he (Big Sam) had done to her.
“I told my friend, Nat, that I did nothing wrong to her and that even before leaving we set up a golf date for Saturday. So, I didn’t understand what he was saying. Then I called the girl, but she did not respond, and I sent her a message, telling her that I had no intention of offending her. That was it; from then I didn’t hear from her again.”
Big Sam said that he was at work one day when officers from the Denver Police called and told him they needed him at their office, and that was the beginning of his woes.
He said that when he got to the police station, one of the officers started asking him questions about the Black American lady and the things that transpired during their night out.
He said the police started accusing him of abusing the Black American woman and after refusing the allegation, the police played an audio of the encounter recorded by the lady.
He then refused to answer any further questions and told the police he needed a lawyer, after which they told him he could leave.
Big Sam further narrated that days after the police arrested him, he was home one day on his day off, when he was called from work and informed the police had come to look for him.
“I was home when they came and told me that I have been charged with unlawful sexual contact, felony 3. I was handcuffed and taken to the police station, someone who had never committed a crime before in the 14 years I have been in the US.”
After the case went to court, his lawyer advised him to accept a deal offered by the state, which he did and was in prison for about a year.
On the day he was discharged from prison, Sam was rearrested by immigration officers who were waiting for him at the entrance of the prison.
After months of legal tassel, a judge ordered that he should be deported because even though he had an American Green Card, he had three months left to become a full citizen and he had been convicted of a crime.
He was not only deported but was also barred from entering the North American country for life and has since not seen his son, who is now 18 years old.
