Disappointed Ghanaians have taken to social media platforms to express their displeasure about the inability of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars of Ghana, to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

After Niger beat Sudan 4-0 in the other group encounter, the group become open, increasing Ghana’s hope of making it to the biggest soccer festa on the African Continent.

A win against the group leaders, Angola, would have kept Ghana’s faint chance of qualifying alive ahead of the last group games. The Black Stars took the lead through a stunning free-kick from Jordan Ayew. But in the 64th minute, Angola equalized through a powerful header from substitute Zini.

The Black Stars have kissed a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations goodbye after recording a 1-1 draw with Angola in Luanda on Friday evening.

Ghana will now miss the AFCON for the first time since 2004, after making the competition for 10 consecutive editions.

This has been confirmed in a Facebook post by Accra-based TV3 Ghana on its verified Facebook page. Many disappointed Ghanaians took to the comments section of TV3 to express their opinion about what led to the falling standards of football in the country.

Some have blamed the Ghana Football Association for the inability of the four-time African Champions to make it to the tournament.

Others also blamed the exclusion of Dede Ayew from the team, arguing that the Black Stars have lacked his qualities in the team.

“The GFA management should rediscover Ghana football for the interest of Ghana without political interference,” one person commented.

“Clear indication that GFA must dissolve the national team cos Otto played all the five matches both home and away and nothing came to fruition,” another added.
