Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has expressed his indifference to the outcome of the election, stressing instead that his foremost concern is for the country to remain peaceful regardless of which party wins. Speaking to the media on November 7, 2024, Agyapong underscored his hope that the elections, set for December, do not disrupt Ghana’s stability, noting that peace far outweighs any political victory.
“I personally don’t care who wins as long as we have a peaceful country where you can breathe,” Agyapong remarked, adding that Ghanaians should place national unity above partisan interests. His comments come amid a tense political climate, with Parliament recently adjourned sine die due to a contentious dispute between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs over the Majority status. The dispute has created uncertainty within Ghana’s lawmaking body, as four seats were declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin—an act that has since been stayed by the Supreme Court.
Kennedy Agyapong, known for his straightforward and often impassioned public statements, warned that the political deadlock in Parliament could jeopardize Ghana’s democratic foundations. “This is why I don’t preach for war. Otherwise, I would have encouraged what’s going on, but what will be the fate of the country?” he questioned, reflecting on the potential dangers of divisive political rhetoric. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing Ghana’s collective future over individual or party ambitions, noting that the stability of the nation should not be sacrificed for short-term gains.
