Impasse In Parliament-Gyampo Schools Afenyo Markin On How To Reach Agreement With NDC Caucus

Professor Ransford Gyampo, the President of the University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG), has reacted to the recent happenings in Parliament.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has adjourned the House indefinitely due to the absence of business for lawmakers to deliberate on, following the failure of the Business committee to meet and prepare the necessary agenda for the floor.

The recall session, initiated by the Majority caucus, had been expected to address several critical issues.

However, as the Majority caucus failed to appear in the Chamber, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment, noting that the lack of their presence stalled proceedings.

This is the second time Alban Kingsford Bagbin has been forced to adjourn sitting indefinitely over the four vacant seats in Parliament.

Expressing his views on the situation, Professor Ransford Gyampo who tutors Political Science at Ghana’s premier university mentioned that the posture of the NPP leadership in Parliament is not helping the matter.

For the impasse to be easily resolved, Gyampo is of the firm conviction that Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin must soften his stance and use a diplomatic approach to reach an understanding with the NDC caucus.

In a Facebook post, the outspoken lecturer noted that the Majority Leader cannot achieve consensus with the National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament if he strictly adheres to the dogma and ideology of the party.

“Relating diplomatically or politically, bases primarily on contextual factors, rather than strictly following ideology, ethnical or dogmatic partisan beliefs, is called REAL POLITIK. The NPP in Parliament needs a leader who knows this”, he posted on Facebook.
