Arsenal could be set to make a bid for a player likened to Kevin de Bruyne ahead of the January transfer window.

It comes as the Gunners have struggled to deal with the absence of Martin Odegaard, who is often the creative force in the team.

The Norway international has been pivotal to the team since his arrival and the recent injury issues have underlined that.

With that in mind, CaughtOffside reports that Hugo Larsson of Eintracht Frankfurt is of interest to the team.

The report claims that a bid in the region of £33million could in the offing for the 20-year-old to test the waters over a deal.

That is expected to be knocked back by Eintracht though, who want closer to the region of £60million for the Swedish star.

Arsenal sporting director role decision

Arsenal are on the hunt for a new director of football over the coming weeks and months following some changes at the top of the club.

Edu Gaspar resigned from his position with the Gunners in early November as he looks to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

With the Brazilian now moving on after five years in post, having built a team to challenge at the top, it will be a huge task to replace him fully.

It’s unlikely to be sorted quickly, which means that Jason Ayto, assistant to Edu, is likely to fill the position short-term.

The Telegraph have revealed that Ayto is set for a “wider role” in the backroom team while a decision on Edu’s successor is made.

That could see him in place for the January transfer window, which is just a few months away and could dictate the success of the season for Arsenal.

Dimitar Berbatov spots Arsenal and Tottenham similarity

If there’s one thing that Arsenal fans don’t want, it’s to be compared to their rivals Tottenham in any way, shape or form.

However, that’s exactly what former striker Dimitar Berbatov has done when giving his verdict on the Gunners and their title chances.

He said on talkSPORT: “I’ll be honest, I like Arteta. Arteta plays football I want to see and watch.

“I like to watch how they play, but at the same time with Arsenal, it’s somewhere similar to Spurs – ‘we’re almost there, but we cannot take it’.

“They’ve had chances in two seasons to win the Premier League, but they cannot take it. Why? I don’t know. Experience, consistency, winning in the right moments… it’s not there for them.”
