The Black Stars are set to play Nigeria in London for the first time since their last encounter 18 years ago.

Ghana dominated Nigeria in their previous meeting in England, defeating the Super Eagles 4-1 in an international friendly at Brentford’s Griffin Park on Tuesday, February 11, 2007.

Laryea Kingston, Sulley Muntari, Junior Agogo, and Joe Tex Frimpong were the scorers as Ghana recorded one of their most memorable victories over their biggest West African rivals.

After a tightly contested first half, the Black Stars netted three second-half goals within 15 minutes to take control of the match. Nigeria managed to pull one back midway through the half, but Ghana sealed the win with a fourth goal in the final 10 minutes.

Kingston opened the scoring with a phenomenal strike from outside the box, followed by a blistering effort from Muntari. Agogo made it 3-0 with a close-range finish before Taye Taiwo converted a penalty to reduce the deficit.

Substitute Joe Tex Frimpong later restored Ghana’s three-goal cushion, finishing off a pass from Michael Essien.

Ghana lineup: Richard Kingson, Hans Adu Sarpei, Habib Mohammed, John Paintsil, John Mensah, Shilla Illiasu, Michael Essien, Francis Dickoh, Laryea Kingston, Derek Asamoah, Stephen Appiah, Eric Addo, Asamoah Gyan, Junior Agogo, Joe Tex Frimpong, Sulley Muntari.

Head Coach: Claude Le Roy

The two nations are set to clash again in England this May 2025 in the Unity Cup, with Ghana looking to repeat history while Nigeria seeks revenge.
