Member of Parliament for Assin South Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly criticised President John Dramani Mahama following a wave of termination letters issued to senior officials at the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).
His comments come in the wake of the termination of a Director of Finance at the Authority, as indicated in an official letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President. The letter, dated March 12, 2025, and on the official letterhead of the Office of the President has terminated the individual’s appointment with immediate effect.
Reacting to the development, Ntim Fordjour expressed concern over what he describes as a targeted political purge.
He further alleged that over 40 professionals and divisional heads at the GMA—many of whom were appointed based on merit and not through political affiliations—have so far been dismissed. Ntim Fordjour emphasized that these professionals who earned their positions through due process.
“After failing to create jobs for Ghanaians, President Mahama is personally terminating the appointments of technocrats who have been duly appointed by Public Services Commission several years ago in Ghana Maritme Authority.
So far 40 technical professionals and divisional heads (who are not political appointees but earned their appointment on merits) have suffered this unfair and politically-motivated terminations in Ghana Maritime Authority.
This is the only President who personally fires technocrats. This reset has overreached!”
Stakeholders are calling for transparency and adherence to established public service protocols to protect the careers of professionals and ensure the continuity of effective governance.
Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
