Scores of entertainment industry players, family, friends, and sympathisers gathered at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Saturday, April 5, 2025, to bid farewell to Teddy Osei, the legendary musician and one of the founding members of the Osibisa band.

The funeral ceremony for the late saxophonist drew prominent figures from Ghana’s creative arts sector who came to pay their final respects.

In a video circulating on social media, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, was spotted at the funeral ceremony alongside Highlife legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Grammy-nominated artiste Rocky Dawuni.

A separate video trending on social media shows international master drummer Okyerema Asante performing a traditional drum display in tribute to the late Teddy Osei.

Some sympathisers were also seen singing one of Osibisa band’s most popular songs, Woyaya, at the funeral ceremony.

Dzifa Gomashie has donated GH¢50,000 to the bereaved family to help cover funeral costs.

Teddy Osei passed away on January 14, 2025, in London at the age of 88.

His contributions to music and culture, particularly through the internationally recognized Osibisa band, have left a lasting legacy.
