The Vice President of Galatasaray Football Club, Metin Öztürk, has called on Fenerbahçe to take punitive action against their head coach, Jose Mourinho, for physically and verbally attacking Galatasaray’s manager, Okan Buruk.

Öztürk stated that Buruk did not provoke the former Chelsea boss in any way, yet he was attacked after congratulating the officiating officials.

He urged Fenerbahçe to sanction Mourinho before the Turkish Football Federation takes action.

“Our manager, Okan, and Mourinho both congratulated the referees. After that, while Okan was continuing, Mourinho first verbally and then physically attacked him. Where else in the world can this happen? What does he think of Turkey? I believe Fenerbahçe’s management will impose the necessary sanctions before the federation does,” Öztürk said, as reported by BBC Sports.

Buruk, who played for Galatasaray for two seasons before returning as manager in 2022, criticised Mourinho for his behavior.

“There was nothing between me and Mourinho. He pinched my nose from behind. There was a slight scratch. Of course, it wasn’t a very nice or elegant thing to do. We expect managers to behave more appropriately in such situations. I won’t exaggerate this issue, but it wasn’t a classy move,” Buruk said.

Mourinho clashed with Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk after Fenerbahçe lost 2-1 in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals on April 2, 2025.

After the match, the Portuguese manager, upset with the officiating, approached the referees to shake their hands.

Subsequently, Mourinho went on to pinch Buruk’s nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to immediately fall to the floor.
