Okaikwei Central MP, Patrick Yaw Boamah
Victims of the recent fire incident at Adum in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, received a much-needed boost with a surprise donation of GH¢100,000 from Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central in the Greater Accra Region.
The donation was presented to the leadership of the traders by Boamah, who was accompanied by Lawyer Obiri Yeboah, the MP for Subin Constituency.
Boamah, who has ancestral ties to the Ashanti Region, initially presented GH¢50,000 in cash and pledged to contribute the remaining GH¢50,000 shortly.
In addition to the cash donation, the Okaikwei Central MP also committed to providing 200 bags of cement to aid in the rebuilding efforts, offering support to the over 3,000 affected traders.
Addressing the traders, Boamah commended Lawyer Obiri Yeboah, the Subin MP, for his dedicated advocacy in securing support for the fire victims. He acknowledged the tireless efforts of his colleague in rallying assistance from various sources.
Boamah’s donation adds to the growing list of contributions from prominent figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other organizations since the devastating fire occurred almost two weeks ago.
These include donations from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice-President; Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister; the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO); and various business leaders.
The leadership of the Adum fire victims expressed their deep gratitude to Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah for his timely and generous support. They offered prayers of thanks for his kindness and urged other Members of Parliament to follow his example and provide assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
They emphasised the urgent need for continued support as they begin the long and challenging process of rebuilding their businesses and livelihoods.
