Dickson Adomako Kissi is a former MP for Anyaa Sowutuom
The former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dickson Adomako Kissi, has attributed the loss of his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections to the implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
He explained that the 2021 physical altercation in Parliament over the E-Levy voting process created a rift between him and some NPP members.
This, he believes, contributed to the disaffection that ultimately led to his loss in the 2024 general elections, describing it as one of the unfortunate shortcomings of the former government.
“Admittedly, the E-Levy specifically has been one of the unfortunate aspects of our administration, and I say this with both happiness and grief because it cost some of us our likability within the party when we literally fought against all these things. It is one of the contributing factors to my losing my seat,” he shared on Accra-based JoyPrime on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
The former lawmaker expressed his satisfaction with the new administration for taking the bold initiative to repeal the E-Levy.
He added that while both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had included the abolition of the E-Levy in their manifestoes and campaign promises, he was particularly impressed by the speed with which it was done and how the president had honored his commitment.
“Kudos to President Mahama. We both agreed that the E-Levy had to go, and he has been able to see it through and end it,” he stated.
The E-Levy, along with other nuisance taxes such as the Betting Tax, has been officially abolished following the president’s assent.
