A recent post by NPP member PK Sarpong has sparked controversy regarding the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and its legal representatives under President Akufo-Addo’s government. According to Sarpong, two prominent lawyers, Dr. Dominic Ayine and Edudzi Tamakloe, played key roles in ECG’s management between 2017 and 2024.
Sarpong alleges that these lawyers were hired by ECG to justify numerous procurement deals that were done without approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). He claims they were paid thousands of dollars for their services, raising concerns about accountability.
In recent times, ECG has been in the news for various scandals, including containers stuck at the Tema Port for long periods due to contractual disputes. Sarpong insists that Ayine and Tamakloe should take a significant part of the blame for these issues, as they were involved in legal decisions during that time.
He further argues that all aspects of the ECG situation should be thoroughly investigated, including the roles played by those who advised and represented the company legally. According to him, transparency is necessary to understand how ECG ended up in its current state.
With ECG struggling financially and facing public backlash, these allegations add another layer to the ongoing debate about corruption and mismanagement within state institutions. While the accused lawyers have not yet responded, this issue is expected to generate more discussions in the coming days.
