West Ham United and Ghanaian midfield sensation Mohammed Kudus has revealed the most fulfilling moment of his career so far. While his dazzling performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup put him in the global spotlight, Kudus says what made the experience truly special was seeing his family watch him play on football’s biggest stage.
According to YEN, Speaking to NBC Sports, Kudus reflected on his emotional journey from playing football in the streets of Nima, a suburb in Accra, to representing Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar.
“It was actually having my family there. From playing in Nima to having my family come to support me, and actually having them in Qatar, in the stands, was a massive feeling for me,” Kudus shared.
The 24-year-old midfielder was Ghana’s standout performer at the tournament, scoring twice in the Black Stars’ crucial victory over South Korea and providing an assist against Portugal. His electrifying display saw him named Man of the Match against the Koreans, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s most promising talents.
Despite Ghana’s early exit from the tournament, Kudus says the experience was unforgettable. “Most importantly, scoring and performing well, even though we didn’t go as far as I expected, was still a fulfilling moment. Having my family there with me to witness it on the pitch made it even more special,” he added.
Since his World Cup heroics, Kudus has continued to shine, both for club and country. He played a crucial role in Ghana’s recent back-to-back victories against Chad and Madagascar in the World Cup qualifiers. However, the West Ham star missed the club’s recent Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a minor injury. He is expected to return to action when the Hammers face Bournemouth on April 5.
As one of Ghana’s brightest footballing exports, Kudus remains hungry for success. “This is just the beginning. I still have a lot of goals and things I want to achieve. I’ve reached some goals, but I set new ones and will keep aiming high until whenever I hang up my boots,” he declared.
