Share

As Ghana prepares for the 2028 presidential election, discussions about who will lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are gaining momentum.

A recent post by Prophet El Bernard has generated fresh debate by revealing four key names, without mentioning Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who is the current vice president of Ghana..

The four names that have now emerged as possible NDC flagbearers for 2028 are:

1. Johnson Asiedu Nketia – The current National Chairman of the NDC.

2. Haruna Iddrisu – The Minister for Education and a long-serving MP.

3. Julius Debrah – The current Chief of Staff at Jubilee House.

4. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – The Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu constituency.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia

Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” is a well-known political figure in the NDC. He has been in the party for many years, serving as General Secretary before becoming the National Chairman. His deep knowledge of politics and strong leadership make him a possible choice, but some believe he is better suited for a strategic role rather than becoming the presidential candidate.

Haruna Iddrisu

Haruna Iddrisu is a respected politician and currently serves as the Minister for Education. He has been a Member of Parliament for many years and is known for his strong debating skills in Parliament. Many see him as a future leader of the NDC, but some believe having another president from the North immediately after Mahama could be a challenge.

Julius Debrah

Julius Debrah is the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House, making him one of the most powerful figures in government. He previously served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development. His leadership experience and calm nature make him a strong candidate, and he is seen as someone who can unite different groups within the party.

Okudzeto Ablakwa

Okudzeto Ablakwa is currently Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. He has been an MP for several years and is popular among young NDC supporters. His international experience and youthful energy could make him a fresh choice for the party. However, he will have to convince senior party members that he is ready to lead.

With Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang missing from the conversation, these four names have become the focus of political discussions. The 2028 election is still years away, but the NDC must decide whether to go with an experienced leader like Asiedu Nketia, a strong parliamentary figure like Haruna Iddrisu, a calm and strategic leader like Julius Debrah, or a younger candidate like Okudzeto Ablakwa.
