The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) has come under intense criticism following the disqualification of Ghanaian rapper, singer, and Producer, King Paluta’s song “Makoma” from the competition. MC Yaa Yeboah, a renowned media personality, has added her voice to the issue at hand, slamming the decision as unfair.
Appearing on today’s episode of UTV’s United Show Buzz, hosted by the effervescent Empress Gifty, Yaa Yeboah made her comments as she expressed her disappointment and frustration with the TGMA’s decision, questioning the consistency and fairness of the nomination and selection process.
According to Yaa Yeboah, though the reason behind the disqualification of “Makoma” is unclear since the boad hasnt given a reason yet, she is disappointed in the board for their decision. However, speculation suggests that the song was disqualified due to explicit lyrics, which King Paluta used creatively. Yaa Yeboah argued that if explicit lyrics are the criteria for disqualification, then Lasmid’s song “Puul” which has explicit lyrics shouldn’t have been nominated.

It could be recalled that, after the release of the official announcement of the nominees for the 26th edition of the Awards, King Paluta has wrote to the board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) demanding explanation for snubbing his song, ‘Makoma’ for nomination for four categories; Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year and Songwriter of the year.
He expressed confidence that his song breached no moral or ethical requirement of the TGMA board and believes it deserves a recognition in any of the categories. But as it stands, the boad hasnt officially given reason for disqualifiting the said son but as stated early, it is speculated that the song was disqualified over explicit lyrics.
