Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has said he has no intention of leaving social media anytime soon.
Critics of the young regional minister have accused him of being obsessed with social media and spending too much time on the platform, even after his appointment.
However, addressing members of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN), the student wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, the regional minister said those who expect him to leave should forget it.
“Now, they come in with another one: ‘He is a social media minister.’ I have a question—who are the people on social media? Is it not you? And is it a sin for a minister to be on social media? I am not leaving that space because I was there with you during the campaign. So now, should I become a minister and abandon you on that platform, without anyone getting to hear your voice and what you think should be the development direction of this country? No. So, I will be there with you and encourage you.”
Dr Amoakohene further responded to being labeled a “small boy.”
“When I came in, they started tagging me as a small boy. Leadership is service, is it not? So if you are old and you want to send someone, it is the young that you send. We are here to serve. If nothing else, the youth have the energy to serve, which is why we are serving—and serving well.”
Dr. Amoakohene, in the run-up to the 2024 general elections, waged a strong and effective campaign on social media platforms to push the agenda of the NDC.
His efforts yielded positive results, as many young people became attracted to the party and voted for it, ensuring the party’s eventual victory.
