Sports Minister Kofi Adams has received commendation for his instrumental role in Ghana’s successful 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The Black Stars secured dominant victories, thrashing Chad 5-0 and defeating Madagascar 3-0 in their matchday five and six encounters.

The two wins propelled Ghana to the top of Group I with 15 points, extending their lead by three points over second-placed Comoros.

Throughout 2024, the Black Stars, under the leadership of coach Otto Addo, experienced a challenging period, managing only two wins in the year prior to the recent victories. They secured a 2-1 triumph against Mali on June 6, marking their first away win since 2022, followed by a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic on June 10, as part of their World Cup qualification journey.

In an effort to revamp the team’s management, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have undertaken restructuring efforts. This includes appointing Dr. Randy Abbey as the new Chairman of the Black Stars’ management team, with former national team captain Stephen Appiah serving as Vice Chairman.

Speaking to 3Sports on the team’s recent success, Dr. Randy Abbey credited the victories to meticulous preparation spearheaded by Sports Minister Kofi Adams.

“He’s been very, very instrumental. If you know what he went through to ensure that the stadium was ready, all that the team required was ready—I mean, he had to. There was a day that I was with him till 2 a.m., just to make sure that everything was available for this team. He worked extremely well. He did everything that a minister should do, even including things out of the ordinary, to ensure that everything will go on smoothly,” Dr. Abbey stated.

As Ghana’s journey toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues, the efforts of key stakeholders, including Minister Kofi Adams, remain crucial in sustaining the Black Stars’ momentum on the road to qualification.
