President John Mahama and Janet Nabla
The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Janet Asana Nabla, has criticized the governance style of the John Mahama-led administration.
According to the outspoken politician, happenings during President Mahama’s return to power can be likened to what occurs under a military regime.
Critics of the Mahama administration have condemned certain actions taken against appointees of the former government, describing them as persecution.
They cite what they describe as the “Rambo-style” storming of the houses of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, by national security operatives.
Speaking on Bullet TV, Janet Asana Nabla, who is also a former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), described such incidents as a disgrace to Ghana’s democracy.
“This second coming of Mahama has become like a military regime, and it is a disgrace to our democracy. I don’t know if Mahama thought that military rule was better than democracy—why didn’t he pick up a gun? Because I heard him some time ago saying that a military takeover of this country is long overdue. So, I don’t know whether, since the military did not take over, he wants to use a military regime style to rule this country.
“Whatever is happening in the media is not the NDC trying to instill accountability, transparency, or prudent management—no, it is not because of that. I don’t even know what they are doing—maybe they want to scare people into keeping quiet,” Janet Asana Nabla stated.
President Mahama, following his loss in the 2016 election after eight years in opposition, won the 2024 election by defeating his closest contender, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was also the incumbent Vice President.
Mahama polled 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55%, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
