Liverpool are cruising towards Premier League glory after storming 12 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table and will be aiming to clinch the title at the earliest opportunity. But Reds boss Arne Slot could still decide to rejuvenate his squad this summer.
Liverpool have defied expectations to dominate their rivals this season but have still suffered bitter disappointment after exiting the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain and losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. With the Reds in danger of losing Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk when their contracts expire this summer, and Trent Alexander-Arnold tipped to head to Real Madrid, Slot could be managing a very different team next season. And Express Sport takes a look at Liverpool’s potential starting XI in August if they sign five new players.
Goalkeeper – Mamardashvili
Liverpool signed Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer, with the shot-stopper immediately heading back to Spain on loan. But he was signed with the expectation of succeeding Alisson between the posts at Anfield – and he may be thrust into the team at the start of the next campaign.
Defence – Frimpong, Konate, Guehi, Kerkez
Slot could be forced to make wholesale changes in his defence, with Andy Robertson in danger of losing his spot at left-back after an underwhelming campaign.
Liverpool have been linked with speedy Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong and could also pursue Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who has impressed in the Premier League.

Marc Guehi could replace Van Dijk at centre-back, with the Crystal Palace ace appearing to be the ideal man to partner current Reds star Ibrahima Konate at the heart of defence.
Midfield – Mac Allister, Gravenberch
Slot may leave his midfield alone, with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch both impressing under the Dutchman.
Mac Allister has kicked on since joining Liverpool from Brighton in 2023, with Gravenberch finding a new lease of life under Slot after being starved of gametime under previous manager Jurgen Klopp.
Forwards – Semenyo, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Isak
Liverpool have built their formidable form on their dominant attacking displays this season, with the likes of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo chipping in with goals and Salah hurting teams time and time again.
Salah may head through the exit door in the summer, with Diaz also tipped to push for a move to Barcelona. And with the futures of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota also uncertain, Slot could turn to the transfer market to target Antoine Semenyo and Alexander Isak.
Semenyo has helped Bournemouth become a force in the Premier League, with Isak becoming one of the deadliest strikers in Europe during his time at Newcastle.
Semenyo could find himself in the Liverpool attack alongside Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai next term, with Isak handed the responsibility to lead the line and bang in the goals.
