Otto Addo Reconnects with His Roots in Akropong

Ghana national team coach Otto Addo recently visited Akropong in the Eastern Region, reconnecting with his heritage. The German-born trainer, whose family hails from the region, met with Osagyefo Kwasi Akuffo III, the paramount chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area.

Embracing His Ghanaian Heritage

Born in Germany to Ghanaian parents, Addo spent most of his life in Europe, where he played and later transitioned into management. Since his appointment as Black Stars head coach, he has shown a keen interest in learning more about his roots. Before Ghana’s World Cup qualifier matches, he also visited the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, seeking his counsel and blessings.

Celebrating World Cup Qualifier Success

Following Ghana’s impressive back-to-back victories against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Addo took the opportunity to visit Akropong. His meeting with Osagyefo Kwasi Akuffo III was marked by advice and encouragement from the traditional leader.

Despite facing criticism after Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Addo has turned the team’s fortunes around. The recent wins have placed Ghana at the top of Group I, bringing them closer to securing a spot in the World Cup.

Praise for His Team’s Performance

After the victories, Addo praised his players, emphasizing their work ethic and discipline. “Congratulations to the team for securing the three points. The work ethic was exceptional,” he said. He highlighted Jordan Ayew’s three assists and the team’s defensive solidity as key factors in their success.

A Courtesy Visit to the Ga Mantse

Earlier, Addo paid a courtesy visit to King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II before Ghana’s home game against Chad. The visit was a gesture of respect and an opportunity to seek blessings ahead of crucial matches. His leadership continues to bring renewed hope to Ghanaian football fans as the Black Stars edge closer to another World Cup appearance.

Otto Addo’s commitment to both his heritage and his coaching role exemplifies his dedication to Ghanaian football, both on and off the pitch.
