From Campaign Hero to ‘Watchman’ – NPP Lawyer Calls Out NDC’s Treatment of Kofi Boakye

On the Wontumi Morning Show aired on Wontumi TV, Lawyer Adomako Baafi, a vocal spokesperson for the NPP, shared his strong opinions about the Mahama administration’s treatment of the Ashanti Region in the 2024 elections. Baafi argued that the Ashanti Region, which played a significant role in securing votes for the NDC, deserved more recognition, especially with a cabinet position. He specifically mentioned COP (Rtd) Nathan Kofi Boakye, a key figure in the campaign, as someone who should have been appointed National Security Coordinator.

Baafi expressed disappointment that Boakye, despite his active role in the election campaign, was given a less important position, which Baafi referred to as merely a “watchman” role at the presidency. According to Baafi, the NDC undervalued Boakye’s efforts and did not properly reward him for his dedication. He also suggested that Boakye should have seen this treatment coming, as it was typical of the NDC’s approach. Baafi insisted that Boakye, with his extensive experience as a retired police officer, deserved a more prominent position in the government.

In addition to his comments about Boakye, Baafi also addressed recent remarks made by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Minister. Baafi expressed frustration with Amoakohene’s handling of the region’s important issues, saying that the minister failed to focus on the region’s key concerns. Instead, Baafi accused Amoakohene of downplaying the achievements of the previous regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah. According to Baafi, Amoakohene focused too much on financial liabilities instead of highlighting Osei Mensah’s significant contributions to the region’s development. Baafi suggested that Amoakohene should be more careful with his comments and warned that Osei Mensah should publicly present his accomplishments to correct any negative impressions.

Baafi also criticized what he saw as a deliberate strategy by President Mahama’s appointees to misrepresent the actions of the previous NPP administration. Baafi argued that Mahama’s team was intentionally trying to make the past administration look bad, and he called on former NPP ministers to stay alert and respond to any misinformation. He urged them to challenge any propaganda or false narratives that could harm the reputation of the NPP and its leadership.

Overall, Lawyer Baafi’s statements highlighted his frustrations with how the Ashanti Region, a key political area for both the NPP and NDC, was being treated under the current administration. He argued that the region’s significant contribution should have been recognized with a cabinet position, especially for someone like Boakye, who was active during the election campaign. Baafi also expressed concerns about the direction of the Ashanti Region’s leadership under the new minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and urged him to focus on the region’s development rather than attempting to discredit his predecessor.

Baafi’s comments stirred up a debate about the way regional contributions are valued in Ghanaian politics, and how political figures are treated after elections. He continued to stress the importance of rewarding loyalty and contributions to the party, suggesting that the NDC had failed to do so in this case.
