The incident involving Pooley occurred on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park. The match was marred by violent clashes, leading to Pooley being fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants. He was rushed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
