Dr. Daniel McKorley, Executive Chairman of McDan Group
The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley, has emphasised that receiving support from a previous government does not mean he should remain silent about their policies.
Speaking during an interview on Oyerepa FM, monitored by GhanaWeb on Friday, March 28, 2025, he noted that gratitude should not prevent individuals from holding governments accountable.
“I can’t be selfish; I am not that kind of person. So if the NPP helped me, should I be selfish? I can’t be selfish; I’m not that kind of person.
“We need to criticise what is wrong. We have to help politicians; we have to help the government come up with the right policies,” he stated.
A prominent member of the ruling party, Gabby Otchere-Darko, last year criticised Dr. McKorley for suggesting that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government stifled private sector growth due to its policies.
Dr. McKorley, while speaking at the Ghana CEO Presidential Gala Dinner on November 7, 2024, expressed concerns about the challenges faced by stakeholders in Ghana’s private sector.
According to him, the private sector has not benefited from government policies, which he believes stifle local businesses and create an unfavorable environment.
“I will be very blunt; government policies have really not helped the private sector. That is where we are sitting right now, and we have to be frank about it.
“If you want to do business in Ghana, you have to be prepared. Being a Ghanaian doing business in Ghana, you have to be brave,” he stressed.
In response, Gabby Otchere-Darko argued that the previous government created an environment where businesses could thrive, highlighting how past administrations failed to commercialise Dr. McKorley’s salt project.
