Kwesi Pratt Jnr (L) and Ras Mubarak (R)
Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has taken a swipe at veteran broadcaster Kwesi Pratt Jnr following the latter’s frustrations against politically motivated appointments under the current government.
Sharing his opinion, the lawmaker criticised Pratt for complaining and voicing his grievances about the appointment of NDC members.
He highlighted that Pratt’s daughter, whom he believes is not a party member, had been appointed to serve in the ruling government, questioning whether individuals affiliated with the party are somehow undeserving of such appointments.
“Your daughter is in government and you are complaining we are appointing NDC members. You cannot be more entitled to appointment as a neutral than a party member who’s paid his or her dues. Someone can’t sit on the fence and expect to eat off the fruits of another person’s labour,” he said in a Facebook post on March 26, 2025.
In an effort to emphasise that the ruling government is inclusive, including offering positions to neutrals, Mubarak further stated that many qualified women at the grassroots level, particularly in remote villages, who actively campaigned and worked to secure votes, have yet to receive appointments. In contrast, Pratt’s daughter, whom he believes is not an NDC member, was appointed instead.
“For the Record, Pratt was in Namibia as part of a delegation. How many NDC members since we won have had such privileges? Secondly, Pratt’s relative who is not NDC as far as I know (never seen his daughter spend days in villages like many of our equally qualified party women, canvassing for votes), whose husband pilloried us and encouraged people to vote for Alan. If there’s any government since JJ, that’s recognized more neutrals and non-NDC members, it is this government.”
The politician and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) further added that appointments given to party members are a reflection of their merit. He expressed his displeasure with what he described as Pratt’s hypocrisy in the matter.
“So what’s the noise about? Ambassadorial appointment at the chagrin of party members? He should cut us some slack. If positions are given to party members they are deserving of it. Does he know the number of qualified party members who can do a better job than Ama Pratt? (I’m sorry Ama, really sorry because you are a nice person but Pratt’s crass hypocrisy is nauseating),” he said.
He added, “Pratt is not more leftist than Hon Kofi Attor or Alhaji Hudu Yahaya. He’s not hard left and more patriotic than any of us. Why were the respectable senior party people not asked to accompany the VP to Namibia. You get all of these courtesies and still rob it in by calling us a band of criminals? This attempt to force the government’s hand to make you an ambassador should not be entertained. Party members worked their socks off for this victory, don’t insult them.”
His comment follows Pratt’s condemnation of politically induced appointments at all levels.
Speaking to the trend which is gaining widespread attention and acceptance on Pan African TV on March 22, 2025, he described the trend as anti-national and stupid.
“The new trend I’m seeing on social media of late is that national assignments are being given based on political links. And you’ll see a tall list of openings being tagged available to party affiliates. What nonsense is that? That is anti-national and stupid.” he said.
“Should the NPP ever come to power, I’m sure even if you’re a medical professional, you’ll have to present your party card to get a job placement,” he said.
He described the emerging trend as bad precedence, declaring that the country is for all Ghanaians, hence people are expected to gain employment should they decide to remain apolitical.
“What is happening in this country? We are one people with one destiny. So, the people who are not aligned to any party, are they not Ghanaians?
“Ghana does not belong to John Mahama and the NDC. What happens at the polls is just to elect people who can manage the country and it ends there. We must apply the same level of discipline and principle in our fight against illegal mining,” he added.
