His Excellency John Dramani Mahama recently dismissed Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his role as the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service. The news sparked widespread discussions online, with social media users and Ghanaians across various platforms sharing their reactions and opinions.
During a radio interview on Peace FM on March 17, 2025, Reverend Ntim Fordjour weighed in on the matter, shedding light on how the President carried out the dismissal. He noted that this is the first time in Ghana’s history a president has treated an outgoing IGP in such a manner.
Reverend Fordjour revealed that after reading the dismissal letter addressed to Dr. Dampare, he was dismayed to find no expression of gratitude from the President. He criticized President Mahama for failing to acknowledge the former IGP’s service, describing it as highly inappropriate.
“This is something I’ve never seen before. I honestly expected the President to show some appreciation in the letter,” Reverend Fordjour said. “It’s truly surprising that not even a single word of gratitude was included. Regardless of how one judges Dr. Dampare’s tenure, he should have been commended in some way before being relieved of his duties.”some way before being relieved of his duties.”
