“Go Away, We Don’t Want You Here” – Ashanti Youth Boo Mahama During Visit

Share

President John Dramani Mahama faced a hostile reception during his visit to Ghana’s Ashanti Region, as a crowd of young Ghanaians jeered and chanted, “Go away! We don’t want you here!” The incident, reported by GHOne TV, highlights growing frustration among the youth, particularly in a region traditionally loyal to the ruling NPP.

The protest reflected deeper dissatisfaction with Ghana’s political leadership and unfulfilled promises. “We’ve heard it all before,” one young man said. “Mahama was in office, and our struggles remain the same. What’s different this time?” Others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the lack of progress during Mahama’s previous tenure.

As Mahama tried to address the crowd, his words were drowned out by continued chanting. “I want to hear your concerns,” he said. “Let’s work together to build a better Ghana.” However, many dismissed his remarks as empty promises. “Every election, you promise jobs, education, and better healthcare, but here in Ashanti, nothing changes,” a young woman shouted.

The anger stems from persistent issues like high unemployment, limited opportunities, and slow economic growth. While the Ashanti Region has historically supported the NPP, many young people feel neglected, with little improvement in their daily lives.

As Mahama’s convoy moved on, a few supporters tried to calm tensions, but the discontent remained strong. The incident underscores the growing pressure on Ghana’s leaders to address the concerns of the youth ahead of the next elections.
