Renowned Yoruba Nollywood actress, Dupe Jayesimi, has shared a deeply personal account of her troubled marriage, revealing the challenges she faced in her quest for motherhood and the emotional toll of her husband’s actions.
In an exclusive interview on Biola Adebayo’s official YouTube channel, Jayesimi detailed the hardships she endured, from dealing with a miscarriage to facing rejection in her matrimonial home.
Jayesimi, who got married in 1988, explained that she suffered a miscarriage shortly after her wedding and struggled with infertility for years.
After numerous medical consultations, doctors advised her to undergo surgery, assuring her that the procedure would increase her chances of conceiving.
However, instead of receiving the support she expected from her husband, she experienced abandonment. For three months after her surgery, her husband was absent, providing no financial or emotional support.
When he finally returned, her attempt to express her frustration was met with indifference, as he suggested she leave his house if she was unhappy.
Seeking intervention, Jayesimi approached her mother-in-law, but instead of support, she was asked to pack her belongings. Her father-in-law, however, sympathized with her plight.
Although she eventually reconciled with her husband and moved back in, the relationship had changed drastically.
She recalled that whenever she wanted intimacy, her husband would create a physical barrier on the bed using pillows, preventing any contact between them. This rejection was especially painful for her, as she had hoped to conceive following her surgery.
As time passed, the situation became unbearable, leading her to leave the marriage.
In her words; “After I reconciled with my husband, I moved back into his house. But things were never the same. At night, whenever I wanted to have sex so I could get pregnant, my husband would create a blockade with pillows to prevent any contact between us. This was especially painful for me because I was hoping to conceive after undergoing the surgery. Over time, I became exhausted with the situation and decided to leave the house. However, just a few weeks after I left, I discovered that another woman had moved in and was already pregnant for my husband. I was devastated and cried for days.”
