Call Akufo-Addo Now — Former MP Explodes, Demands Ex-President Face Party Discipline

According to a report by Ghanaweb, former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Michael Ennin, has strongly urged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to invite former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to face questions at the party’s disciplinary committee.

He believes Akufo-Addo played a direct part in the controversial suspension of key party executives, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. Ennin shared his concerns openly during an interview with Asempa FM on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

He questioned why the NPP leadership seemed eager to discipline certain party members but appeared unwilling to hold Akufo-Addo accountable for his alleged involvement in the removal of senior figures. According to Ennin, it is essential for the party to fairly address this matter.

Expressing his frustrations, Ennin specifically asked: “Is this not the same party where some of the leaders like Akufo-Addo orchestrated the sacking of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong?

The manner in which they sacked these people wasn’t right but why haven’t they addressed that issue? They should also summon Akufo-Addo to the disciplinary committee to answer for how they used the constitution to sack these people.”

Ennin raised concerns about the deepening divisions within the NPP, highlighting the loss of experienced and respected individuals who had dedicated years to building the party. He suggested that many actions taken recently have placed personal ambitions above the party’s interests, weakening its unity.

With genuine disappointment, Ennin stated: “No one is bigger in the party than others. Today we have lost all our leaders. The likes of Wereko-Brobbey and Kwame Mpianim toiled for this party but because of Akufo-Addo, all these people have been driven away from the party. Are we serving one person or what?”

Ennin’s remarks follow the NPP’s recent decision to refer Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Dome-Kwabenya MP, to the party’s disciplinary committee. Safo is accused of acting in ways harmful to the party’s image and unity.

Paul Afoko had served as the NPP’s national chairman starting April 2014 but was suspended in October 2015 alongside then-General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Second Vice Chairperson Sammy Crabbe. The party had justified their suspensions by claiming their actions negatively impacted the party’s political success.

Akufo-Addo served two terms as Ghana’s president from 2017 until early 2025. On January 7, 2025, he peacefully transferred power to President John Dramani Mahama after completing his constitutionally allowed terms.
