An aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has backed the decision by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to establish a committee to probe the party’s loss in the 2024 elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Joy FM on Thursday, March 20, Kofi Tonto clarified that the establishment of the committee was a joint decision and that challenging its credibility would be inconsistent.
“The party has instituted a committee, and we trust the judgment of the party. When the party meets to take such a decision, leaders of the party are present. So how can we be part of a decision to constitute a committee and then come out to say otherwise?” he stated.
He pointed out that having faith in the committee doesn’t automatically imply that one agrees with every detail of its findings.
His remarks come after Adwoa Safo’s criticism of the election review committee, where she called into question its credibility, implying that it was established to promote a particular agenda rather than to perform an unbiased evaluation.
She also dismissed any efforts to place all the blame for the party’s electoral loss on Dr Bawumia, contending that the situation seemed to be orchestrated to undermine his reputation.
Mr. Tonto confirmed that Dr. Bawumia’s team does not plan to challenge the committee’s integrity, but will carefully review the report once it is published and address any issues that may arise.
“What we will do is that, once the report comes, we will take an extensive look at it. If we have concerns, we will address them accordingly,” he added.
