Renowned Ghanaian media personality and talk show host, Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has weighed in on King Paluta’s ongoing petition to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board over the exclusion of his hit song, Makoma, from this year’s nominations.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Delay expressed her disappointment over the situation, emphasizing the need for continuous prayer. She wrote, “How @KingPalutaMusic Makoma wasn’t nominated, is why I keep praying without ceasing. Under your very eyes, what belongs to you will be snatched away if you cease praying.”

Her reaction adds to the growing discussion surrounding the snub of Makoma, which many music lovers and industry players consider one of the biggest songs in Ghana over the past year.

King Paluta’s Petition to TGMA Board

Following the announcement of nominees on Saturday, March 15, 2025, King Paluta and his management team issued a petition dated March 18, demanding an explanation from the TGMA board regarding the omission of Makoma from the nominations. According to the statement, the song was submitted for consideration in four categories:

  • Most Popular Song of the Year
  • Record of the Year
  • Hiplife Song of the Year
  • Songwriter of the Year

The petition noted that Makoma had been one of the most impactful and widely received songs within the year under review. The team further argued that the song does not violate any ethical or moral requirements set by the awards scheme.

The Success of Makoma

Since its release in 2024, Makoma has dominated airwaves, streaming platforms, and social media, becoming an anthem for many music fans. The song has enjoyed massive radio and television play and trended consistently on digital platforms, making its exclusion from the TGMA nominations a subject of widespread debate.

While Makoma was left out, King Paluta’s other song, Aseda, received a nomination for Most Popular Song of the Year. However, his management maintains that Makoma equally deserved recognition and remains hopeful for a response from the board.

With Delay’s comments adding further attention to the issue, all eyes are now on the TGMA board to see whether they will address the concerns raised by King Paluta and his team.
