Two people have been shot dead in Atuba, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region, in what is allegedly connected to the ongoing unrest in Bawku.
Unidentified gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on traders at a busy marketplace, killing the victims instantly on Monday, March 17, 2025.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammed, a local cleric and veterinary officer, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.
It is unclear what sparked the attack, but it is thought to have something to do with the long-running Bawku feud.
This latest violence brings the death toll to approximately 76 since the conflict resurfaced in October 2024.
Meanwhile, senior statesmen including the Asantehene continue mediation efforts to restore peace and end the crisis.
