Ghanaian football star Jordan Ayew was met with a chaotic scene upon arriving at Kotoka International Airport (KIA). A group of airport staff swarmed him, hoping to receive handouts, causing a commotion that briefly obstructed his vehicle’s movement.
The Leicester City forward, in Ghana for the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, struggled to reach his vehicle as desperate airport staff followed him closely. In a viral video, the men stretched their hands into his car’s window, pleading for money.
Despite multiple calls for them to step aside, some clung to different parts of the vehicle, making it difficult for the driver to move. The situation only calmed down after security intervened.
Ayew’s arrival comes ahead of Ghana’s important World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars, led by coach Otto Addo, will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21 before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on March 24.
Ghana, currently second in their group with nine points from four matches, is level with Comoros. The squad includes notable international stars like Thomas Partey and home-based players such as goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, defender Kamaradini Mamudu, and Razak Simpson.
This is not the first time a public figure has faced such a situation. Business mogul Ibrahim Mahama was also swarmed by bloggers at an event, with many hoping for financial favors.
