Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei, a member of the outgoing administration under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reflected on the transient nature of political power after visiting the Jubilee House. In a heartfelt Facebook post on January 2, 2025, he acknowledged that the power ultimately rests with the people, who determine who leads them.
“Today, as I stepped into Jubilee House, it became clearer to me that the real authority lies in the hands of the citizens, and they decide who should wield it. Political power is short-lived, but we often forget this and fail to take lessons from history,” he wrote.
Despite the NPP’s defeat, Newton-Offei reiterated his support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, praising his dedication and blaming some of the president’s close associates for his shortcomings.
“In all honesty, I still believe President Akufo-Addo is a good man who gave his best, though he was disappointed by some trusted allies. The people have spoken, and we must respect their will. Now, let’s go home and showcase our pride to our families.”
His remarks follow the NPP’s crushing electoral defeat, which will see the National Democratic Congress (NDC) take over governance on January 7, 2025.
