‘I queried the GFA on why they decided to maintain Otto Addo’

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams has confirmed he asked the Ghana FA to explain to him why they have decided to maintain coach Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars and added they gave their reasons which he will confirm going forward

The 49-year-old was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the new Sports Minister and is hoping to patch up all cracks to raise Ghana sports especially football to the highest standard.

Having previously met with the Ghana FA officials and the Black Stars head coach, the member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency stated he demanded answers on certain issues he had little information on.

He furthered on by urging Ghanaians to support the Black Stars in upcoming games and if it is necessary to make changes in future, they will do just that. He said on Sports Station on TV3

“The FA brought the coach [Otto Addo] and other persons [technical team] to introduce them to me, and at that meeting, I raised all those issues [about their decision to keep the coach despite his failure to qualify for AFCON in Morocco]”

“But I think at this moment, and at the time that I had become the Minister, the issue is we were too close to these [World Cup 2026] qualifiers [against Chad and Madagascar], and so the issue of changes should not be what should be on the table. That should be the last thing on the table,” he said.

“And so the issue on the table now is how to prepare the team for the task ahead of us.”

“Because if the agenda is to go and sack the head coach — if we sacked the head coach, who was going to take over immediately? You’re now going to be hunting for a new coach, and that may take you the entire period,” he stressed.

“So it’s better to rally what you have, work with it, and make sure that you achieve success. If we have to revisit that story, we will visit it,” he said.

The Black Stars are currently occupying the second spot in Group I with 9 points and will host Chad this Friday, March 21, in match-day 6 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers
